life is like a dogsled team. if you ain’t the lead dog the scenery never changes.

Big reserve price for a little bus, but hey when is a runt like this going to come up for sale again? Well maybe next week, since it didn’t sell.

Hmmm. I’m not sure what to make of the new VW “VEE DUB” ads. Are they so stupid they’re funny? I saw one the other day so I did some Googling and found the Consumerist posted them.

Anybody catch the new Apple/Motorola iTunes phone commercial aka “how many musicians can we stuff in a phone booth”? Did you see the early 70s baby blue Westy? If not see above. Its a little sad the way its pushed into the frame - stereotypical, but sad. There’s a close up shot as well - it looks like its a hurtin’ unit.

I love geometric architecture. Its the perfect marriage of math and art.

The whole situation in New Orleans is sad, but I have yet to hear anybody talk about relocation. Its inevitable, the polar ice caps are melting and the oceans are rising, so why not do it now? Its a hard pill to swallow, giving up your land to the one force more powerful than man, but it would be much easier now than when the levy wall is 100ft high and the next hurricane breaches it.
Eventually most of Holland will face the same fate. People have to realize we all really just “borrowing” the land from mother earth.
The Tragically Hip got it right…
Alright!
Bourbon blues on the street, loose and complete
Under skies all smoky blue green
I can’t forsake a dixie dead shake
So we danced the sidewalk clean
My memory is muddy
What’s this river that I’m in?
New Orleans is sinking man
And I don’t wanna swim
Colonel Tom, what’s wrong? what’s going on?
You can’t tie yourself up for a deal
He said, Hey north you’re south shut your big mouth,
You gotta do what you feel is real
Ain’t got no picture postcards, ain’t got no souvenirs
My baby, she don’t know me when I’m thinking bout those years
Pale as a light bulb hanging on a wire
Sucking up to someone just to stoke the fire
Picking out the highlights of the scenery
Saw a little cloud that looked a little like me
I had my hands in the river
My feet back up on the banks
Looked up to the lord above
And said, hey man thanks
Sometimes I fell so good, I gotta scream
She said Gordie baby I know exactly what you mean
She said, she said, I swear to god she said
My memory is muddy
What’s this river that I’m in?
New Orleans is sinking man and I don’t wanna swim
Swim!

I filled up the 4runner at Petrocanada last night with Premium (91 octane) and it cost me $88. Why is this significant? Because I’ve never been able to put more than $60 in the 4runner - even with a bone dry tank.
The 4runner’s lease runs out in the spring and we plan to keep it until the fall (people tend to pay more for SUVs in the fall). I think our next vehicle will be a diesel or hybrid.

Julia Grady - you rock! Thanks for the bestest 35th birthday a guy could ask for. I love you!

Today I turned 35. I’m not sure what this means, but right now due to some aches and pains in my legs and back I feel like I’m 65. I think young, sometimes act young, but I don’t feel physically young.
Some days I wonder how I’ll be able to chase Alex around the block or teach him to play sports feeling like this. Thinking of this is sadder than the pain I’m in. How can I fulfil my Fatherly duties limping around the park or playground?
I read somewhere if you think you will get better, you most-likely will. So here’s to thinking that this 35 year old dad will feel 35 again.

Alex puttering around transferring things in and out of the wading pool, cold Guinness in hand, Jack Johnson playing on the speakers, a stuffed Garfield from my childhood, a blue Tonka Jeep from somebody else’s childhood, thyme growing in place for grass, the parts bus in the driveway - our old neighbours canoe on its roof, new neighbours saying hi, non-stop hot weather, Me sitting in a Muskoka chair writing this blog.

Marineland is a sad place, if you’re a killer whale.
