Fellow bug_pack members Kristen and Mike lost their bus when a recycling truck broadsided them. Mike, who was driving is ok, but many memories are lost.

Is your young one dreaming of a VW Bus? Are they hoping to inherit your beloved camper? When is a good time to hand down the family jewels? I inherited my Grandma’s car (a 1966 Pontiac Beaumont Sport Deluxe) when I was 16 and wrote it off in a bad accident a year later, so by my example 16 is maybe too young.
When my kids are old enough to drive, a “beater car” will probably be a 2002 Aztec. Gone are the days of picking an old aircooled VW for a few hundred dollars and grinding the gears until you learn how to work your way through a 4 speed.
These days most split window buses are more valuable than a high end laptop and are appreciating daily. Would you let your kids drive your prized $60k Samba? Comment away.

A video is worth 10,000 words so I’ll let YouTube speak for this one, but it’s clear the marriage of a Mazda rotary engine and a bay window bus can have positive results.

My favourite shirt site, Threadless, sent me their weekly newsletter this and low and behold one of the designs had a bus in it. Congrats to Andy Pitts for getting on Threadless with his Still Life with Van. Looks to be a nice 70s VW bay window Westfalia set against that metropolitan backdrop. Yes, of course, an XL is on its way.

A nice little video put together by Fox Searchlight to promote Little Miss Sunshine to Volkswagen Bus fans.

Not only are they all beige bay window campers, but they’re all 1979 models. What are the odds? Only at your VW Bus headquarters, German Supply.

So I’m leafing through the September 2006 copy of Hot VWs at my local Chapters and I see the article on the Michigan Vintage VW Club’s Ypsilanti show back in May of this year. Cool! It’s an awesome show. We went for the first time and loved it. I bought the magazine for future reading.
A few weeks later I started reading the article. Immediately I started scanning the photos… what are the odds Buddy, our bus, is in one of them. Almost… in a couple photos, then…. I found it. Super cool. So I show it to Julia and she says… “and there’s you”. Wow! I realize it’s hard to tell, but that’s me because only 10 people in the world have that red dog on the back of their black hoodie! Click image to see close up on Flickr.

Thanks to Scott’s Beetle Bar (also a Ghia Bar) I was able to drive both Buddy and Karmella to Toronto for some repairs at the German Supply shop. Karmella is staying for a few weeks until she gets her electrical system sorted out.

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE tells the story of the Hoovers, one of the most endearingly fractured families ever seen on motion picture screens. Together, the motley six-member family treks from Albuquerque to the Little Miss Sunshine pageant in Redondo Beach, California, to fulfill the deepest wish of 7-year-old Olive, an ordinary little girl with big dreams. Along the way the family must deal with crushed dreams, heartbreaks, and a broken-down VW bus, leading up to the surreal Little Miss Sunshine competition itself. On their travels through this bizarrely funny landscape, the Hoovers learn to trust and support each other along the path of life, no matter what the challenge.
